The way it ended up felt a little incomplete and that's what makes it stand out as the story's weakest link. Having said that though, it's not by any means a big issue. I'm glad you had a great time watching the movie with us.Ian Montgomeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02617512627906067345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2839284882721447014.post-16180097146219362392011-07-12T14:25:24.549-04:002011-07-12T14:25:24.549-04:00I have to say that I mostly agree on your points. ...I have to say that I mostly agree on your points. Giving it an eight is pretty level with what it deserves. It wasn't OHMYGOD THIS IS THE GREATEST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! level, but it wasn't that shabby either. The only reason I think others might rank it lower is because the disappointment and/or fatigue brought on by the third Pirates movie killed the franchise for them instead of leaving them hoping for the next one to be better.

The only thing I can really say I disagree with is your opinion about the missionary and mermaid. Yes it is a novelty concept, but it is also about as solid as these things get. It's kind of folly to expect a developed romantic relationship (or more than one if you count Jack and Angelica as something other than flirt-flirt-stab) in this series. It felt better than Will and Elizabeth, maybe because they didn't dedicate an twenty extra minutes to dragging it on and on (and on, and on, and on... while not doing a DAMN THING). A longer run time would have not helped. When you go to the theatre (midnight showing, no less) for a movie about killer mermaids, pirates and the Spanish Inquisition (which, all puns aside, I seriously did not expect at that precise moment), the last thing I want to see is the filmmakers trying to shove another golden couple down my throat. They kept their distance and for that I am glad.Ellennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2839284882721447014.post-81160418241746692042011-07-11T08:17:36.076-04:002011-07-11T08:17:36.076-04:00Thanks. To be honest though, I'm a little surprised there isn't more journalistic support for this movie.

Your review and all the ones I've read on Rotten Tomatoes reinforce my hypothesis that the movie can only please fans that want to see it as opposed to those who are forced to. I think the producers believed that too and shaped their product accordingly.Ian Montgomeryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02617512627906067345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2839284882721447014.post-14081930229131842722011-07-10T16:00:17.178-04:002011-07-10T16:00:17.178-04:00Wow!
